2020 CGS-SOS Graduate Student Competition

The CGS-SOS will hold the 2020 CGS-SOS Graduate Student Competition on Wednesday, January 15th at Mastro’s Ristorante Italiano. The competition will include representatives from six Southern Ontario Universities. A representative from each University will make an oral presentation of up to 15 minutes which will be followed by a five minute question-and-answer period.
A panel of judges from industry and academia will evaluate the presentations. Evaluation for the CGS-SOS Graduate Student Competition will be based on the following criteria: geotechnical content and interest (60%), oral and visual quality of presentation (30%) and performance during the question-and-answer period (10%). Cash prizes will be awarded to recognize the best presentations and for participation in the competition. The best presenter will be awarded $500; the second place presenter will receive $250; the third place presenter will receive $150; and the rest of the speakers will receive $100 for participation. Free registration for the CGS-SOS One Day Workshop in February 2020 will be provided to all participants of the 2020 CGS-SOS Graduate Students Competition.The presentations will be recorded and will represent the Southern Ontario Section in the CGS National competition.
